Three intervention programs for high school students with reading disorders and dyslexia were developed by the Dutch National Centre for Language Education (Expertisecentrum Nederlands). The intervention programs integrate evidence based training aimed at enhancing native (Dutch) and foreign (English) reading fluency and focus on improving reading, writing and spelling strategy use. These training programs are interwoven with the functional use of compensating software, such as text to speech and word prediction software. Students receive social and emotional support, based on solution focused principles, in order to cope with their reading and spelling problems.
Controlled effect studies were conducted in different educational contexts to determine students’ improvement in reading fluency, spelling, text comprehension and use of compensating software.
